Cianna Leatherwood, MD, MPH is a physician with board certifications in internal medicine and rheumatology. After graduating from the University of California, Berkeley with degrees in molecular and cellular biology and public health, she attended medical school at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California (USC). She completed internal medicine residency at Los Angeles County-USC Hospital and rheumatology fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital where her research interests focused on lupus outcomes, lupus disparities and rheumatoid arthritis quality improvement. She additionally obtained her masters in public health from the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health. Following her training, she practiced rheumatology at Kaiser East Bay (located in Oakland and Richmond, California) where she treated patients with lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, vasculitis and other conditions. She currently works as a Senior Director of Clinical Development at Gilead Sciences, focusing on the development of treatments for inflammatory and rheumatologic conditions. She is passionate about addressing health care disparities for underrepresented communities and ensuring empowered and equitable access to care for all.
